East Midlands Trains – Neville Hill

Project Brief

Fit LED lighting to Central Lighting Mast within the depot. The lighting mast has between 17 & 20 existing lights installed, which were life expired.

Rothwell Group were commissioned to install new LED lighting to the Central Lighting Mast Tower in lieu of the existing 1000-Watt SON’s (high pressure sodium fittings). Consideration was given to maintaining the required lux levels in replacing the existing luminaires. A design was carried out by RGL, to provide the required Lux Level of 50 Lux at ground level. The incoming mains and lighting controls were also upgraded as part of the project, to include new GRP kiosk and new electrical distribution.

The works undertaken by RGL is listed below

  • The new luminaires were installed to the existing tower by creation of a bespoke standalone stainless steel frame attached to the lighting tower.
  • Access to the lighting tower had to be to be considered. Masts are next to running lines which had to remain operational throughout. The masts are extremely high, in excess of 50M, and accessible by an integral ladder. Some lines have overhead wires in close proximity.
  • A SSOW was implemented whilst the work were being carried out by RGL.
  • Total Access Solutions were employed for the duration of the high level works as part of Rothwell Group Ltd Rescue Plan, to align to working at height regulations and compliance with HSE requirements.
  • Testing, Commissioning and certification were carried out to BS7671.

Spencer’s – Hornsey MDU

Spencer’s Hornsey Access Gantries

Project Brief

The works were to comprise of the installation of new high-level access gantries, serving roads 18 and 19, to allow access to the roofs of new rolling stock and specifically the HVAC modules located on the roofs of the carriages.

The existing electrical services within the depot required significant modification to allow for the installation of the new gantries. New electrical installation work comprised of low voltage distribution, containment, lighting, and small power services for the gantries. Also installations include; lighting controls, fire alarm system, PA speaker system and Mechanical controls wiring, 110 volts shore supply.

The works undertaken by RGL is listed below

  • The whole of the electrical system has been designed, installed and tested to meet the 18th Edition of the wiring regulations, BS 7671:2018.
  • All services installations have been co-ordinated and are fully integrated with the mechanical, electrical services, architectural features and structural elements of the existing building.

Halifax Court

Halifax Court – Sub-Mains Replacement Project

Project Brief

The sub mains renewal comprised of the provision of a replacement main section board, in the Social Centre building and the laying of new mains cables from the main section board to section boards located in the individual courts. New sub mains have been laid from the court section boards to individual houses.

The works undertaken by RGL is listed below

  • New distribution boards have been installed into the houses and final circuits reconnected or modified.
  • The whole electrical system is tested to IET Wiring Regulations 17th Edition (BS 7671:2008 incorporating amendment number 3:2015).
  • Rothwell Group Ltd has been responsible for the procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the electrical services and for all new Civil’s works (trenching, ducting, backfilling, making good and core drilling into each house).

March Station

Abellio Greater Anglia – March Station 

Project Brief

Rothwell Group Ltd has been responsible for the procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of the electrical and mechanical services.

The project at March Station is based on a design & build by Rothwell Group Ltd and now completed provides updated power and lighting throughout the station, its buildings and the car park.

The works undertaken by RGL is listed below

  • Site Set up.
  • To install a new REC supply into the existing LV Switch Room on Platform 1
  • To supply and fit a new MCB Distribution board within the existing LV Switch Room including all new bracketry and containment.
  • To install a new feeder cable to Platform 2 from the existing LV switch room adjacent to Platform 2
  • Install stainless steel kiosks on Platforms 1 & 2 and provide MCB distribution boards within.
  • Install new lighting and power including all containment and wiring to platforms 1 & 2
  • Install new power and lighting including all containment and wiring to toilets, waiting rooms, the Ticket office and the Booking Hall.
  • Works required in loft space above the ticket hall to include lighting & floor boarding
  • Install new sub main cabling to Friends of March Station rooms, S & T Rooms and redundant rooms
  • Install new LED column lighting to Platform 2 access foot path.
  • Install 19 No. new columns and LED lighting to the main station car park
  • Replace 2 No. existing columns on Platform 2 and replace fittings with LED fittings
  • Replace 1 No. existing column on Platform 1 and replace fitting with LED fitting
  • Install 1 No. new column on Platform 1 complete with a LED fitting
  • All civil’s works – trenching, ducting and making good.
  • Provide new led lighting to Platforms 1 & 2
  • Provide new led lighting inclusive of containment and wiring to the existing footbridge
  • Provide new heating and ventilation to staff toilet, staff kitchen area and ticket Office
  • Provide new heating to the 2 no waiting rooms.
  • Strip out existing electrical services following the installation of new
  • Fully test & commission on completion
  • Clear site
  • Provide all ‘as fitted’ drawings, O & M manual and certification.

The whole of the electrical system has been designed and installed to meet the Wiring Regulations 17th Edition BS 7671:2008. incorporating amendment 3:2015 & BS 5266-1:2011 Emergency lighting – Part 1: Code of practice for the emergency escape lighting of premises.
