Chester-Le-Street – CCTV

This project focused on enhancing the security infrastructure at Chester-Le-Street Station through the installation of a comprehensive CCTV surveillance system, data cabling, and associated infrastructure.

All work was conducted within the station compound, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations while maintaining strict safety protocols.

The project began with site setup, including welfare facilities and storage. No Controller of Site Safety (COSS) was required, as all work remained outside the 1.25-meter exclusion zone from the platform edge. Safety measures included standing down during train arrivals and securing the work area with Chapter 8 barriers and appropriate signage.

Key tasks included installing a 75mm duct along both sides of the embankment and the underpass, routing ductwork to the station building, and setting up containment systems in passenger shelters and key areas.

A total of 24 CCTV cameras were installed, connected via Cat 6A duct-grade cabling, and supported by a new Altron hinged-top column on Platform 2.

Additional installations included two Assistant Help Points, two 24-inch monitors in the Station Manager’s office, and a Perle switch for future expansion.

The system was rigorously tested, commissioned, and handed over with operational training, significantly improving security and surveillance at the station.
