We are delighted to share a significant update on the Heaton Depot Protection System upgrade project. Roads 1–4 have now been fully installed, tested, and commissioned, marking a key milestone in our 30-week programme to replace the life-expired system with a modern, compliant Zonegreen solution.
This achievement reflects the hard work and collaboration between our project team, Network Rail, and Northern Rail colleagues. The new system enhances safety and operational efficiency, ensuring the depot remains compliant with current standards while supporting future requirements.
Key Safety Improvements
- Advanced Depot Protection System – Provides automated control to prevent unauthorized train movements, reducing risk to staff.
- Enhanced Warning Signals – Clear visual and audible alerts for personnel working on or near the tracks.
- Improved Access Control – Secure login and authorization features to ensure only trained staff can operate the system.
- Fail-Safe Design – Built-in redundancy and emergency stop functions for maximum safety.
- Real-Time Monitoring – Continuous system diagnostics and alerts to identify issues before they become hazards.
